The Gabier's Manual, written in French, is a practical book that helps sailors pass the Gabier certification exams.

It covers knots and tackles, splices, mooring, sail handling, and rigging setup. It also provides guidance on rigging damages and the measures to take to fix them.

The manual was published by order of the Ministry of the Navy and the Colonies, following a decree from May 11, 1866, and regulations from November 30 of the same year, which organized the training and instruction of certified Gabiers.

The volume consists of 474 pages with 198 illustrations. Printed on ivory offset paper. The text and presentation are faithful to the 1875 edition. This is a facsimile reprint of the original 1897 edition.
